Turtle Tales
Our turtle wheel is coming along pretty well, I believe. The paintings on the big wheels need more glazing but the glaze medium dries slowly so this will have to do for today. I like the vibrant colors of the ocean against the walnut and sapelle.
This is the other painting. I think our computer monitor washes out color. The paintings look a lot richer in person. Also the bronze starfish in the hubs and the sea horses in the footman rods have a clear resin poured over them to give an underwater feel.
There is a garden for an octopus and its buddies right on the frame between the treadles. This area is still under construction. Also the treadles gently echo the shape and pattern of a turtle’s flippers.
Between the treadles, tucked away under the big wheels, is a hatchling turtle leaving its broken shell and headed to the water – or carpet, whichever comes first.
More work needs doing on this big old turtle head but it does have a presence. Probably will be the only turtle at any spin-in!
Just another angle for fun. This shows the paua shell inlays in the front leg. Today it’s on to more undersea adventures!
